Hamburg 2006
Interviewer: My first question is; where does the name Tokio Hotel come from?
Bill: We’ve thought about a new name for a long time, because this is all completely new to us, and because we’re all city-people we wanted a big, impulsive city, just like everything we’re experiencing right now. And then we had to pick a symbol that accompanies everywhere we go, and that’s the hotel, so that’s where Tokio Hotel comes from.
Interviewer: What were the other options?
Tom: I have no idea; we’ve been searching for a very long time and simply didn’t have a name, but before that we called ourselves Devilish.
Interviewer: When did you find that music interested you so much that you wanted to form your own band, and when did you started to sing and to drum… and just, playing an instrument?Tom: For us two the love for music came very early, because our stepfather played electric guitar in a rock band and he sort of inspired Bill and me. And all of as have made music for a very long time and then we met and it all just happened very quickly.
Interviewer: When did you have your first professional concert?
Tom: Hm… Well, our first professional performance was probably just after our first single Durch den Monsun came out, but now we’ve played so many concerts I don’t think I remember all of them. We’ve played in very small clubs, but also in big concert halls for a couple of thousands, like this.
Interviewer: Where do you find the time for things like school and girlfriends; things that people of your age enjoy.
Tom: Yes, well the tour life is very stressful of course, but we’ve also planned days off in between, so we can do stuff for school. And for girls there’s always time to spare…
Interviewer: When will you come to Poland?
Tom: We’re really looking forward to going there and giving a concert, but now it hasn’t been planned yet. First we just finish the tour but after that we’ll certainly make time to come to Poland.
Interviewer: When can we expect your next album?
Tom: We’ll start working on that after the tour, but of course we’re always writing songs; it’s an on-going process. But after the tour we’ll get back in the studio and record it.
Interviewer: You’re two other band mates; you do’t talk a lot, why is that?
Georg: Hm… Yeah, we’re just shy… that’s it. When I want to say something I say something.
